Codden Summer Term 2025

Sports Day
The children enjoyed a wonderful sports morning, thank you so much to the friends and family members who were able to join us and support this event.  The children loved challenging themselves to run, jump, throw and catch and had great fun!
20.06.25 - The Beach
This half term out topic is 'Under the Sea'.  The children talked about their experiences of going to the beach and things they had seen, heard, touched, felt and tasted.  They created a small world rock pool using objects that they found whilst visiting the beach with their families.  They practiced their hand/eye coordination to catch fish and move them in the rock pool.
The children read and acted out the story of Sally and the Limpet and wrote sentences to retell the story.
We thought about why Dad's and other people are special to us.  The children created beautiful clay medals to give as a gift.  They used lots of tools to manipulate the clay such as rolling pins, cutters, letter stamps, clay tools and brushes.
Everyone really enjoyed the lovely hot weather and loved cooling down in our mini paddling pool!
07.05.25 - The Hungry Caterpillar
The children have had great fun this week acting out the story of the Very Hungry Caterpillar, they worked really well together taking turns to read the story, act out the character of the caterpillar and sequence the picture cards.
01.05.25 - Dentist Visit
The children enjoyed an interesting from the dental nurse from Torrington Dental Practice.  They learnt how to brush their teeth well, what happens if they don't care for their teeth and what foods are good and bad for our teeth.  The children enjoyed using the UV pens to imitate plaque on false teeth and loved brushing it off with a toothbrush!
01.05.25 - Mini beasts
This week the children have created mini beast collages in the style of Eric Carle.  They thought carefully about the colour, shape and size of the shapes that they needed to represent their mini beast and 'dip and dabbed' PVA clue to stick the pieces on their background.  We hope you can guess what creatures they have created!
25.04.25 - Minibeasts
The children in Codden class thought carefully about what Minibeasts they thought might live in our school garden, they worked together to draw and label them on a huge sheet of paper.  In the afternoon we went on a Minibeast hunt and found so many different creatures such as spiders, ants, flies, centipede, slug, and lots of woodlice.  The children observed the creatures and talked about whether they were living under the ground, on the ground or in the air.
