Codden Class Autumn 2025

Christmas in Codden Class
It has been such a fun and busy time in Codden Class!  Over the last few weeks the children have explored the question: How do different people celebrate Christmas?  They learnt about why Christmas is a special time for Christians.  They learnt about Advent and acted out the story of the Nativity with small world and puppets and sequenced the story in the correct order.
One of the children and her Mum led a really interesting session about how Christmas is celebrated in Czech Republic, the children loved hearing about their traditions and everyone enjoyed making traditional Christmas biscuits.
For home learning the children created beautiful decorations to decorate our class Christmas tree, we loved hearing about how you made them, many children showed their friends how to make them during Independent Learning time in the Making Area!
The children practised their fine motor skills by making beautiful pine cone Christmas Tree decorations to take home. They worked together to make the longest paper chain they could, they started by seeing if they could make one taller than themselves and then tried to make one that went around the whole classroom!  The children challenged themselves to make Father Christmas's sleigh out of Lego, they adapted and refined their ideas to make their models even better and shared lots of ideas with their friends.
The children had great fun joining in with Christmas Traditions in our school such as Christmas Dinner day, the PTFA Christmas shop, Christmas Fayre, watching the KS1 Play, Christmas Craft Afternoon and Christmas Party! Merry Christmas Everyone!

28.11.25 - Owl Babies
Our text this week has been 'Owl Babies'.  The children acted out the story in sequence using small world puppets and then tried to sequence their own pictures, adding key words to retell the story.  The children worked together to create ripped paper owl collages, strengthening their fingers by ripping the paper and practised 'dipping and dabbing' the glue.  The children have loved our new role play 'Pet Rescue Centre' and have been taking great care of the animals who have visited.
26.11.25 World Nursery Rhyme Week - Home Learning Project
Well done to everyone who made a prop to retell a nursery rhyme .  We have loved guessing which nursery rhyme they represent and have also been really interested to find out about how you made them!
14.11.25 - Jiggy Wrigglers
The children in Codden class had an amazing time celebrating National Nursery Rhyme week with a visit from Jiggy Wrigglers.  Everyone joined in singing, dancing, moving, playing with puppets and instruments!
Light and Dark - Star in a Jar
This week the children have explored 'light' and have enjoyed listening to our story 'Star in a Jar'.  The children thought about which materials allowed light to pass through and created their own 'star in a jar lanterns'.  They explored what it feels like to be in the dark in our dark den and light box.  The children learnt about Remembrance Day, they made their own poppies, sat beautifully for the two minute silence and learnt about what Remembrance Day means to different people.
