Our topic this week is ‘All About Me!’. The children have been getting to know each other and exploring pre-school.

Activities/provision this week:
- ‘What I like’ collage – The children decorated a heart shape and glued on pictures of things they like. For example, their favourite food, games, animals.
- ‘My house’ craft – The children created a picture of their house using cut out 2D shapes e.g. square windows, triangle roof. They drew who lived in their house and people in their family.
- Decorating gingerbread biscuits – The children decorated their own gingerbread biscuit to look like them using colourful icing.
- Family photographs - The children shared their family pictures from home, talking about who is in their family.
- Labelling my body activity - We drew around one of the children on a large piece of paper. The children then labelled the different parts of the body by placing pictures on the outline e.g. hands, eyes, mouth, feet.
- ‘How tall am I?’ activity – We measured the children using string and the chalk board. We compared the children’s heights using mathematical language e.g. tall, short.
- Mud kitchen – The children have been practising putting on mud suits and boots to explore our mud kitchen/digging area. They have enjoyed water play with herbs from our pre-school garden.
- Home corner – The children have enjoyed playing in the home corner, pretending to cook and play families
- Dolls house – The children have been playing with miniature people and our dolls house/furniture.
- Small world – The children have been playing with familiar characters such as, Bluey, Peppa pig and Hey Duggee.
- Fine motor doll game – The children played with magnetic dolls, putting on different outfits and dressing them.
- Craft – The children have made their own colour monster using different craft materials.
- Construction – The children have been building with different size blocks and Duplo.
- Reading den – The children have been listening to lots of familiar stories and fairytales.
Phonics: Instrumental sounds
This term our phonics focus is instrumental sounds! We will be experimenting playing with a variety of instruments. We will practice playing the instruments loud, quiet, fast, slow etc.
Maths: Sorting
We have been learning to sort objects into different groups and describe them e.g. sort by shape, colour or size.
Nursery rhymes:
This term we will be learning the nursery rhymes:
- Old MacDonald had a farm
- Twinkle Twinkle little star
- Baa, Baa, Black Sheep
- Dingle Dangle Scarecrow
- See the sleeping bunnies
- Hickory Dickory dock
- Wind the bobbin up
- If you’re happy and you know it
- The wheels on the bus
- I’m a little tea pot
- Five little monkeys

- Painting with sponges – The children painted on large pieces of paper using different shape sponges.

Our topic this week is ‘Harvest’.
Books we have read this week:

Activities/provision this week:
- Apple picking – We watched a video of Tractor Ted harvesting apples from the farm. The children helped collect apples from our school orchard.
- Apple printing – The children experimented with printing by using yellow/red paint and apples cut in half.
- Apple rolling – The children played with apples in the water tray, developing their fine/gross motor skills. They used scoopers to pick up and transport the apples. They enjoyed rolling the apples down the water tray.
- Farm playdough – The children played with animal footprint playdough stones. We talked about the different animals you might find on a farm and what their prints look like.
- Messy harvesting tuff tray – The children pretended to ‘harvest vegetables’. They played with gardening tools and pretend soil (brown moon sand).
- Scarecrow cutting craft – The children created a scarecrow by cutting out the different pieces e.g. arms, legs, body, head. They glued them together on orange card.
- Scarecrow craft – The children made a scarecrow face using yellow tissue paper, buttons, pens and glue.
- Baking bread – We read the story of ‘The Little Red Hen’ and talked about helping our friends. On Friday the children helped to bake bread which they tasted for snack.

We would like to invite you to our Open Afternoon and Stay and Play session. Throughout the afternoon there will be an opportunity to have a tour of our school and meet children, staff, parents, governors and PTFA members. Families are welcome to spend time playing and exploring in our Early Years Gardens and classrooms. Please see poster above.
