Barum Autumn Term 2023

8.9.2023

The children have had a fantastic first week back, they have really enjoyed catching up with their friends and getting used to their new classroom. In English we have read our new text ‘Whirly Twirly Me’ by Manjeet Mann, we have talked about our likes, dislikes, puzzles and patterns and have written what we like about the book and why. This week we have talked about what Scientists do and made our own scientist badges to wear during our science lessons. In Science we are learning about materials, the children classified some classroom equipment according to what materials they are made of.

This week we had a visit from Manjeet Mann the Author of 'Whirly Twirly Me'. Everyone enjoyed listening to the story and joining in with some actions. Manjeet then played a game 'Guess that Face' and signed the childrens books.
Thank you to all the children that made their own monsters and brought them in to share with the class. The children loved showing their wonderful creations to the class and talking about how they had made them.
13.10.23
This week we celebrated Harvest at the church. The children made us very proud performing their songs and poems really clearly and confidently.
In Geography we learnt about using a compass to find the correct direction when using a map. We have learnt the mnemonic ‘naughty, elephants, squirt, water’ to help us remember the points of a compass. We had a lovely time drawing large compass’ on the playground and playing a game to find the points of the compass. In DT this week, we really enjoyed adding the decorations and features to our hand puppets, the children did an amazing job and they all look amazing!
Barum Class Art Project November and December 2023

Our art project for the Autumn term was to design and make a pinch pot in the style of Antony De Russo.
After exploring and appraising his artwork, we designed our own pinch pots. Next we had a practise with playdough and re-evealuated our designs following any difficulties we found during the practise session. We were very excited to make our pinch pots using air drying clay, all the pots were a great success. Finally we used acrylic paint to finish our pots. Everyone felt very proud of their finished pots.
